Inter-Island Travel

Traveling to and within the islands of French Polynesia is not a problem. Thanks to French largess, the transport infrastructure is quite sophisticated. There are modern airstrips, well-paved highways, boats and ferries, and a bus system that works. Visitors will find that most transport is reasonably priced and, despite the general laid back attitude, things run right on time.

(not to be confused with Air Tahiti Nui, the international carrier) has flights several times daily between Papeete and Bora Bora, Moorea (also serviced by Air Moorea), Huahine, Raiatea, Rangiroa and many of the Tuamotu Islands with several flights a week. They feature a fleet of comfortable and well maintained ATR 45/75 passengers planes which are reliable and always on time.
The baggage weight limit on inter-island flights is 20Kg or 42 lb per passengers (not including hand luggage - 5kg). IT IS NOW strictly enforced.

There are catamaran services many times daily between Tahiti and Moorea (see the Moorea page for schedule).

Aside from cruises, there is no practical boat transport between the islands.

The Radisson Paul Gaugin offers 7 day cruises around the Society islands, the Bora Bora Cruises have 7 day cruises from Bora Bora, the Archipel cruises have 4 to 7 day cruises (sailboat) in all French Polynesia.
The Aranui is a deluxe mixed-cargo which takes passengers on an exciting 16-day discovery cruise of the Marquesas Islands.
